Maggie Nurrenbern, a teacher and PTA mom, is a champion for public education, advocating for increased teacher pay and literacy programs. She also supports affordable healthcare, women's reproductive rights, public safety initiatives, investments in infrastructure, and workers' rights, opposing laws that undermine labor rights.
As a teacher and PTA mom, Maggie knows the importance of quality schools for families in the Northland. Maggie’s experience as a public school educator has given her a unique perspective and understanding of the numerous issues facing educators, families and students. Maggie brings this experience to the Missouri Legislature, where she has garnished a reputation as a champion for public education, standing up for our public schools and teachers to ensure they can provide quality education for each and every student.
Maggie has served on the House Committee for Elementary and Secondary Education, where she championed legislation to boost student literacy and raise teacher pay.
As a member of the House Budget Committee, Maggie has worked across the aisle to increase teacher pay through the Career Ladder program by $21.8 million and fully fund school transportation.
Missourians will have the opportunity to reverse Missouri's dangerous abortion ban by voting "yes" on Amendment 3. Maggie is a strong supporter of Amendment 3, which will restore access to abortion and reproductive freedom. She believes complicated medical decisions are best left to women, their families and their doctors- not politicians.
Maggie believes that every Missourian deserves affordable, quality healthcare. Today, too many Missourians are uninsured or underinsured, and the cost of healthcare and prescription drugs are a strain for far too many families.
After Missouri voters passed Medicaid expansion in 2021, Maggie fought to ensure Medicaid was properly implemented and funded. As your State Senator, Maggie will continue to push to expand access to healthcare and mental health services and work to eliminate the barriers that keep families from receiving the care they need.
Maggie believes public safety is critical to the strength of our neighborhoods and our quality of life across our region. Maggie is proud of her family’s legacy of first responders. Her great-great grandpa, Dan Ahern Sr., served as Chief of Police of Kansas City and later on the Police Board. Her great-grandpa, Dan E. Ahern, served as a firefighter and Secretary-Treasurer for IAFF Local 42 and her grandpa, Dan P. Ahern, served as a captain for KCFD and proud member of Local 42.
Today Maggie works closely with our local law enforcement, seeing firsthand the challenges our communities face. She has worked with local police to advance legislation to allow law enforcement to request assistance from outside agencies. She collaborates with community advocates and first responders to ensure they have the training and resources they need to keep us safe while ensuring our criminal justice system is fair.
As state representative, Maggie has filed legislation to reinstate local control over firearm regulations and close the domestic violence loophole. She will continue to champion commonsense, bipartisan bills to keep our families safe.
Missouri’s aging infrastructure is not only putting our families at risk, but it’s also hindering economic growth. In the Missouri House, Maggie has supported historic investments in our roads and bridges.
Maggie supports policies that encourage the growth of small businesses in the Northland and across Missouri. She’ll continue to support initiatives that encourage the development of new businesses, services and innovations.
As a fourth-generation union member and working mom, Maggie will always be a champion for organized labor and working families. She knows workers are the backbone of Missouri’s economy.
She strongly opposed Prop A and worked to make sure that the so-called “right to work” law was defeated. We know workers in “right to work” states have lower incomes and fewer benefits and it is wrong for Missouri.
She will fight any attempt in the Missouri Legislature to undermine workers’ rights and Missourians’ constitutional right to organize and collectively bargain.
"I trust that State Representative Nurrenbern will always put our public schools, small businesses and the needs of our community first. We should all come together and support Maggie's candidacy and work hard to ensure Democrats hold onto this vital state senate seat."
